Lady Gaga has officially wrapped up the Mayhem Ball tour after 86 shows spanning the globe. She gave everything to this tour, night after night, city after city. The last show of the tour was in New York City, her hometown, at Madison Square Garden — a venue that holds so much significance in her story. For the Little Monsters who followed her on this journey, the Mayhem Ball was never just a concert tour. It was a lifeline. A sanctuary. A safe space.
I was lucky enough to attend 5 Mayhem Ball shows — 2 in Melbourne, 1 in Brisbane, and the final 2 shows of 2025 in my hometown of Sydney. As greedy as it sounds, 5 shows were not enough. The breath of fresh air that this tour brought to the live music landscape, I am unsure if we will ever experience something like that again. I have seen hundreds of concerts and a plethora of artists across my lifetime, but nobody — and I mean nobody — compares to Mother Monster live. There is an energy she brings to a stage that is simply unmatched. A magnetic, almost otherworldly presence that makes you feel like you are exactly where you are supposed to be. I have seen three of her tours in person, the two prior to the Mayhem Ball: artRAVE: The Artpop Ball and The Chromatica Ball. Both were extraordinary in their own right, and I walked away from each one asking myself, “How the hell is she going to top that?” But the Mayhem Ball answered that question definitively; this was Gaga’s best work to date.
I remember when we got our first glimpse of the Mayhem Ball, with Gaga’s incredible Coachella performance in April 2025, debuting “The Art of Personal Chaos” show. Like many other monsters around the globe, I tuned into the livestream of weekend one. When I tell you my jaw was on the floor — I mean it. I was truly in awe of what Gaga was debuting to the world. I had goosebumps, and like everyone else, I NEEDED to see it live. Thankfully, a week later, Gaga announced Australian tour dates, her first time coming down under in 11 years!
I will never forget the months leading up to my shows. I would tune into TikTok livestreams of shows overseas and peruse Twitter, looking for updates from whatever city Gaga was in that night. I appreciate that Gaga and the Haus made each night exciting for the fans: a new sash, new wigs, new costumes, surprise piano songs, and, of course, the iconic guessing game about which bow song was being played that night. I remember Twitter being ablaze on opening night, when “ARTPOP” was the bow song. The excitement from the fans that she had finally acknowledged that record after very dire times.
The tour itself felt like a real celebration of Gaga’s career, and a genuine thank you to the monsters who have joined her on this ride. We saw fan favourites, deep cuts, and songs she hadn’t performed live for well over a decade. I was beyond lucky to be at the show where she sang "Brooklyn Nights" (Melbourne Night 1) at the piano. The lore behind that song in the Gaga fandom — I truly will never recover from being there. It is one of those moments that sears itself into your memory forever.
Where do you even begin to describe a show like the Mayhem Ball ? The production, the Opera Haus set piece, the gorgeous costumes, the pyrotechnics, the LED runway — all of it was top-tier. There was a level of theatricality that felt like a Broadway production X a stadium show. The show was divided into acts, each with its own aesthetic and emotional world, taking you on a journey that ebbed and flowed between chaos and tenderness, darkness and euphoria. It was a masterclass in storytelling through performance, and it was clear that every single detail had been thought out. This was not just a pop star on a stage. This was an icon at the absolute peak of her touring powers, pouring every ounce of herself into every single show.
The opening segment of the tour, titled “Act I: Of Velvet And Vice”, was truly, and I mean truly THE best piece of live performance I have ever seen. The energy during those first 15 minutes, I will chase that feeling for the rest of my life. It was electrifying. Every show I saw, I had goosebumps, tears in my eyes - on Melbourne Night 1, I was standing there in complete disbelief that my queen was in front of me again. It was my first time seeing her in 3.5 years, and the first time in 11 years on my home turf. Judas began to play, the fire erupting from the fire cannons, and I was there - SOBBING. I am unsure how many people would be in the “I've cried to Judas” Club, but I am very happy to be its president. It was a moment of raw emotion, and I couldn't contain it.
And now, it is over. The Mayhem Ball has taken its final bow, and we are all left standing in the aftermath, trying to figure out what to do with ourselves. That is the cruel beauty of a great concert tour — it gives you something so profound that when it ends, it leaves a mark. For the Little Monsters who were there, whether for one show or multiple, we carry this with us. The memories, the tears, the dancing, the being told to put our fucking paws up 118 times, the friendships forged in stadium queues, the moments that no recording will ever truly capture. Gaga has always said that her fans saved her life. But for so many of us, she has saved ours, too. The Mayhem Ball was proof, once again, that music at its most powerful is not just entertainment — it is life changing.
Thank you, Gaga. Until next time.
