Consider the Tension: Broken!

Lovers around the world have yet another reason to celebrate as our mother, Kylie Minogue, has delivered again for her global audience. Her Tension Tour, which captivated fans with its electrifying performances across 66 shows, has now been immortalised in a professional film recording. The tour film is now available to stream on Netflix. Pieced together from shots throughout the tour, the footage treated lovers to the glitz and glam spectacle that the live show brought to a sea of adoring fans every night!

One of the most striking aspects of the Tension Tour film is how vividly the crowd’s energy and enthusiasm come through the screen. From the very first song, you can see and feel the electric atmosphere. Kylie’s connection to her audience is palpable: she often pauses to interact with fans in the front rows, sharing smiles, exchanging words, and connecting. The film does a remarkable job of capturing these moments, with cameras cutting to fans beaming with happiness, and losing their minds with mother! This isn’t just a concert film: it’s a communal celebration, and this lets viewers at home feel as if they are right there in the midst of it all. The energy is infectious, and even through the screen, it’s easy to get swept up in the euphoria.

What I loved about the film was the little backstage snippets and moments between acts. It was super cool to see the thought process behind the tour’s conception and how it eventually came to be, along with special and emotional moments from Kylie. Between this and the recent documentary, she is letting us lovers in like she never has before.

However, it was a little disappointing to see that the majority of the footage came from the Mexico shows. As electric and passionate as the Latin American crowds are, these shows did not feature the full stage production that defined other parts of the Tension Tour. While the film still captures the heart and spirit of the live experience, some viewers may wish for a more complete representation of the tour’s full creative vision. While we are on the topic of disappointment,  I can live with “Last Night I Dreamt I Fell in Love” being cut from the film, but “Things We Do for Love”… Mother!!! WHAT!!! A cult classic, fan favourite from Tension, lost in the abyss… thankfully, we all have phones to film it on!

Overall, despite a couple of minor things, watching The Tension Tour film was pure magic. The energy, the emotion, and the connection between Kylie and her fans leapt through the screen and wrapped us all in a shimmering embrace. It’s a testament to her enduring star power and her ability to turn every song into a communal, cathartic release. For every fan, old or new, it was a reminder that pop music, at its best, is a shared celebration.

And now, with whispers swirling about a Kylie eras tour on the horizon, I’m already dusting off my gold hotpants and red chiffon and rehearsing my 'la la la’s.' If Mother Minogue’s next act is even half as bombastic as this, I’ll see you all in the front row: crying, dancing, and screaming. Sorry in advance.

Because let’s face it: when Kylie calls, I answer. Always.
