Iconic Pop Legend Madonna has taken Times Square by storm with a surprise performance set, sponsored by Grindr. As she likes to call herself, "MUTHA" has been appearing on grids across the globe on the gay dating app, and now she's celebrating the start of Pride Month in the only way she knows best: entertaining the gays!

In a carved out part of a giant billboard, she was joined by legendary music producer Stuart Price and a clad of dancers, delivering a 5-song set. Opening with “I Feel So Free,” she gave the audience a taste of the live performance aspect of the Confessions II era. It was fun and campy, and aesthetically, very pleasing. The block colour tones of pink and purple work well with the era and with M herself.

While Madonna doesn’t quite move like she used to, and the majority of the set being lip synced, I cannot fault her for giving continuous and innovative energy to her musical career and her alliance with the LGBTQIA+ community. After all, this was a pride related performance, so thank you, MUTHA, for always showing up for us.

Madonna debuted a new track from Confessions II at the set, titled “Love Sensation.” It’s fun, campy and dancey! I will definitely be playing this all winter long, dreaming of being under a disco ball with my baddies at a summer beach pool party. Madonna performed “Get Together” live for the first time in 20 years at the set. GAGGED!!! One of my favourite Madonna songs, I would die to hear it live!!!! I can only hope for Australian Confessions II tour dates!

She closed out the set with her iconic hit, “Hung Up.” And really, could there have been a more perfect ending ? Just when you think Madonna might hang up her heels or her crown, she spins back onto the stage, proving once again that she is a legend. For decades, she’s been a heartbeat at the centre of queer joy and celebration, a glittering constant through every disco, club and parade.

Here’s to Madonna: the icon who always answers when our community calls, and never hangs up on the gays.
