Rising Slovakian pop starlet Adéla has officially released her highly anticipated debut album, PRIMA. Adéla first captured our attention as a contestant on the reality TV show The Debut: Dream Academy. Since her time on the show, she has quickly gained a devoted following and has emerged as pop music's newest provocateur, known for her bold style and unapologetic energy.
A devoted student of pop, Adéla draws inspiration from the genre’s greats while bringing her own perspective. The record blends pop hooks with elements of electronic music and modern R&B, creating a sound that is both fresh and familiar. The lyrics explore her personal journey from small-town Slovakia to international stardom, chronicling the highs and lows of her rise to fame.
While the debut album is great, fun pop music, some online critics have noted that it lacks the originality of her EP, The Provocateur. The concept of the record as a whole is that she is a student of pop, and you can very clearly hear the pop music references in the body of work. Does this make the record bad? Not at all. But I can understand where people are coming from when they say it lacks originality. Adéla’s awareness of pop history is evident throughout.
The record kicks off with “KGB,” a killer, bombastic pop song that details how Adéla worked hard to learn English and study the pop greats in order to become one. A very impressive way to kick off a record. “Nicole Kidman” swoops in, and the track is as fierce as the actress herself. This almost trap-like beat, which you could see Doja Cat rocking, intoxicates your ears and makes you wanna move your body. Speaking of moving your body, “Boys” serves Britney Spears the house down, BOOTS MAMA!!!! Makes me wanna whip my non-existent hair around, and dance just like Britney would.
We get to hear a more vulnerable side of Adéla with the ballad “Hitachi.” It’s gorgeous, minimalistic, and a standout piece on the busy pop record. Nice touch, queen. Arriving at the end of the record is a really fierce track. “Ain’t in LA.” The references to Miley’s Bangerz are paramount and, quite frankly, really, really fierce. The anthemic chorus vocals that soar over the fierce beat just make sense. Another fierce one in the bag, Adéla.
With PRIMA, Adéla has not only established herself as a force in the pop music landscape but has also set the stage for a promising, dynamic career. PRIMA stands as a testament to Adéla’s talent and ambition. A debut album that signals the arrival of pop’s new provocateur.
